The Tiny Seed
The Tiny Seed
Written by Nishika
A story about a small seed that faces big obstacles — and blooms anyway.
It flew alongside many other seeds — some big, some small, all searching for a place to land and grow.
One seed flew too close to the blazing sun and shrivelled away. Another fell into the cold ocean and was lost.
But the tiny seed flew on, tumbling and twisting through the clouds.
The earth was cold and hard. Snow piled up above it. The seed lay still — very still — and waited.
All winter long, it waited.
The tiny seed felt warmth seeping through the soil. It pushed out a small root, then a small shoot. It reached upward, through the dark earth, toward the light.
"Keep going," the seed told itself. "Just a little more."
Children stopped to look at it. Butterflies danced around it. And when autumn came again, the flower let its own seeds go — sending hundreds of tiny seeds into the sky.
And so the story began again.
Moral of the Story
"Even the smallest beginning can lead to the greatest bloom — if you are patient, and you keep reaching for the light."
Can you twist the plot?
• What if the tiny seed landed in a city? What obstacles might it face?
• What if the seed made a friend along the way?
• Write or draw your own version of the tiny seed's journey!
THE TINY SEED
I was born in a dried radish pod
The farmer took me out and gave me to a little girl called Nishika.
I immediately got furious, how could someone remove me from my mother and my home. I was scared to explore the world beyond but I plucked up courage and said bye to my mother.
Then I saw that Nishika was holding me gently and my other friends were getting buried in a raised bed, not very gently and figured out I was lucky. I found out that the raised bed has soft soil so that is why I was being put there. Me and my other friends were arranged neatly in a row and I felt like I wanted to explore the world more.
The next time Nishika came to visit she carefully plucked out the weeds around me. I was happy because they were always annoying me. Then she poured Jeeva amrit and I ate it all. It was delicious!
Just then I realised that I had begun to grow and I felt my stem growing longer by one cm everyday. My roots pushed downward and I rose up, greeting the sun.
One day I realised that I was now fully a radish and when Nishika took me home and carefully placed my baby seeds in a raised bed just like she had done with me. I was big now, a mother actually and when Nishika took me my babies said “bye” just like I had.
